In Sri Lanka, medical care varies greatly.
Colombo has some good clinics; they may be more expensive than local medical facilities, but they are worthwhile to use because they provide a higher standard of care. Self-treatment may be appropriate if your problem is minor (e.g., traveler’s diarrhea), you have the necessary medication, and you are unable to attend a recommended clinic. If you suspect you have a serious disease, especially malaria, do not waste time; go to the nearest quality facility for treatment. It is always preferable to be evaluated by a doctor rather than rely on self-treatment.
