The best surf beach in Sri Lanka is at Arugam Bay on the east coast, where the waves are high from April to September. Guesthouses and surf shops along the coast can provide information on other surf breaks. Kirinda, near Tissamaharama, is another possibility.
The best time to surf on the west and south coasts is from November to April.
Hikkaduwa has long been a favorite of international surfers and offers gentle breaks for beginners. Mirissa is also gaining popularity. Midigama Point is another good, albeit more isolated, spot.
Surfboards, body boards, wetsuits, and other equipment can be rented from shops near the beaches. You can also buy used equipment.
